In Brazil, as in countries throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, a new
perspective on
women, the environment and development is emerging. This article
chronicles the birth of
that perspective through four interrelated projects comprising the
Brazil Women,
Environment and Development Programme. Supported by UNIFEM, as part of
the UN
commitment to implement Agenda 21, the projects comprise a programmatic
effort to infuse
the new perspective into Brazil's women's and environmental movements
as well as its
diverse development community.
