Here is an announcement for two tenure track positions in Ethics
at San Diego State University. Should you know of any potential
applicants, please encourage them to apply ASAP. There is an
OCTOBER 31, 2000 APPLICATION DEADLINE, and SDSU is looking to
EXTEND OFFERS BY DECEMBER 2000.

The Department of Philosophy at San Diego State University seeks
to hire two assistant professors of philosophy on the tenure
track, to begin in Fall, 2001, pending approval of funding. AOS:
Ethics, broadly construed to include both theory and applied.
AOC: Open, but the Department seeks to fulfill some of its
teaching needs in additional areas, including Kant, medieval
philosophy, and philosophy of religion. However, those not
having these pedagogical competencies ought not in any way be
discouraged from applying. Since the Department expects of its
hires excellence in philosophical research leading to publication
at least as highly as it does teaching, both excellence of
research and teaching will be the primary criteria for
appointment and subsequent promotion. The normal teaching load is
3-3 with 2 preparations each term. Candidates with
interdisciplinary interests and competencies are urged to apply.
Salary will be commensurate with appointment at the Assistant
Professor level. The Department intends to found and develop an
Institute for Ethics. Those who are hired will have some
administrative skills relevant to serving in the institute.
Examples of such skills include, but are not limited to,
organizing and directing conferences, curriculum development,
and grant writing. SDSU is an equal opportunity employer and does
