THE AMELIA EARHART FELLOWSHIP AWARDS FOR WOMEN Primary Sponsor: Zonta International Deadline: 11/15/2000 PURPOSE: Amelia Earhart was originally a member of the Zonta Club of Boston, Massachusetts, USA and later belonged to the Zonta Club of New York City, New York, USA. Zonta was Amelia Earhart's only service affiliation. When she was lost in mid-flight on the historic first attempt to circle the globe at the equator in 1937, Zontians honored her memory by awarding grants to qualified women for graduate study in the aerospace field. DEADLINE: November 15, 2000 SUMMARY: Zonta International Amelia Earhart Fellowship Awards for women pursuing graduate study in aerospace-related sciences and engineering are given annually by recommendation of the Zonta International Amelia Earhart Committee. The Amelia Earhart Fund is sustained by voluntary contributions from all Zonta clubs. Since its inception, Zonta has awarded more than $4.6 million in 912 fellowships to over 606 women from more than 55 countries.
