The awards program is designed to honor individuals from across the country who have demonstrated outstanding innovation and dedication to wetland education, research, volunteerism, private land stewardship and program management. Community members who have exemplary efforts in home building and land development emphasizing wetlands protection and restoration are particularly encouraged to submit a nomination. Nomination Categories: LAND STEWARDSHIP and DEVELOPMENT: one award to a farmer, forester or other landowner involved in innovative land stewardship, and one award to an individual involved in a development project that restores, protects or minimizes impacts to wetlands. EDUCATION/OUTREACH: award to academics, teachers, nonprofit staffers, journalists, or state and local government employees involved in wetland education programs. SCIENCE RESEARCH: one award to an academic, consultant, or other individual known for their scientific research on wetland values and functions, restoration, creation, enhancement, and/or preservation. VOLUNTEER LEADERSHIP: one award to a volunteer involved in outstanding leadership in wetlands projects.
