                2001: A FEMINIST ODYSSEY

                    A Call for Papers

                11-14 October 2001, San Diego

The 2001 Annual Meeting of the Organization for the Study of Communication,
Language and Gender will be held in San Diego, California from October 11
to 14. The conference is hosted by The University of San Diego. It will
be held at the beautiful Hacienda Hotel in Old Town.

The conference theme, "2001: A Feminist Odyssey" honors the past, present,
and future journey of women and men who have carried the feminist banner.
An odyssey is a voyage, an excursion, an expedition; it takes the traveler
to and through unknown territory. This year's conference theme focuses on
the many forms into which feminism has evolved during those marches through
the years, the decades, and the millennium in search of justice. Through
the papers presented at this conference, it is our hope to honor the
multi-faceted faces of feminism - the personal, the political, the
inter-cultural, the international. Papers, panels, and workshops that
chart, analyze, expand, and honor this theme are invited along with
proposals addressing other topics.

Submitted papers should include a separate title page with author
identification and contact information ( phone numbers, mailing, and e-mail
addresses). Please remove other identifying information from the text.
Please do not exceed 20 pages including references. Priority will be given
to completed papers.

ABSTRACTS: Two abstracts are required: All paper, panel, and workshop
proposals should include a 75-word abstract for inclusion in an abstract
collection to be made available at the conference. More detailed abstracts
of paper proposals should be at least 200-250 words in length. Panel and
workshop proposals should include a rationale and a 75-100 word abstract
for each included paper. The names, addresses, and affiliation of all
participants and the Chair (to whom all communications will be exchanged)
must be included.

Student-authored papers are especially desired as students hold the future
of feminism in their hands. Advisors, teachers, and mentors are asked to
inspire your students to submit their work to this year's conference.
Student-authored papers should be so indicated on the cover page.

The deadline for submissions is April 30, 2001.

Student submission has an extended deadline, May 30, 2001.

Send three copies of each paper and proposal to
