Sophie's Wind -- Fall 2001
Issue #2: Women and Creativity: Living Lives of Art
Deadline: May 31, 2001

The call:

women and creativity: living lives of art

...to live a life of art. to live lives of art. to live, create, become,
breathe, sing, feel, experience, touch, taste, desire, celebrate, mourn, and
love in and through art. as a woman. as women. as created by women. as felt
by women. as imagined over and over again by women.

but what is art? and how do art and creativity change and transform as they
move about the globe? in the hands of so many differently experienced lives?

and how and what do art and lives become --

as creativity circulates--slow, violent, urgent, quick, languid, vibrant,
quiet, loud, sweaty, dry--through the infinite hands, eyes, feet, fingers,
ears, tongues, lips, skins, bodies of women? across infinite lands, oceans,
mountains, rivers, deserts, lakes, jungles, plains, seas? through infinite
countries, borders, states, religions, treaties, politics, economies,
struggles, wars, tariffs, trades, laws?

a celebration of art in the lives of women --

in their infinitely moving inks, colors, pens, pencils, brushes, canvases,
papers, cloths, threads, media, instruments, sounds, songs, dances, and
skins. in their aches, pains, losses, hardships, sacrifices, longings,
depressions, anger, frustration, and tears. in the bodies and worlds women
touch, desire, taste, lick, want, need, ache, long, kiss, crave, embrace,
and love again and again in so many different ways...

women and creativity. living lives of art.
