Awards (DEADLINE EXTENSION)
Grant Deadline: 2001-05-15
The deadline has been extended to May 15, 2001 for applications for awards
from the Smithsonian Institution Libraries Dibner Library Resident Scholar
Program. The Program offers short-term study grants for the calendar year
2002 with stipends of $2,500 per month for durations of one to six months.
The Dibner Fund supports these awards for research using the collections in
the Dibner Library of the History of Science and Technology. Strengths of
the collections are in the fields of pre-twentieth century mathematics,
astronomy, classical natural philosophy, theoretical physics, experimental
physics (especially electricity and magnetism), engineering technology, and
scientific apparatus and instruments. More general information can be
found at http://www.sil.si.edu/Branches/dibner.htm. The approximately
25,000 rare books and 1,800 manuscript groups date from the thirteenth to
the early twentieth centuries. Holdings are searchable online through the
SIRIS catalogue at www.siris.si.edu (use the "Libraries" database).
Scholars are expected to be in residence at the Smithsonian Institution in
Washington, DC. Applications must be postmarked by May 15, 2001.
Application materials are available online at
