The Ecology Center works to protect the biological diversity and ecosystem integrity of the Wild Rockies Bioregion through ecosystem defense, GIS, documentary filmmaking, activist empowerment, and international programs (see http://www.wildrockies/teci). The organization is based in Missoula, a small city surrounded by an array of spectacular wild ecosystems, which hosts a university and numerous environmental organizations. Applicants should have a strong desire to work towards protecting public land ecosystems in the Northern Rockies. The position is full to three-quarters time. Primary responsibilities include monitoring and critiquing timber sales and other projects on national forests and other public lands in Montana and Idaho. The staff member will also work on outreach campaigns closely tied to ecosystem defense (e.g. roadless area protection, redefining restoration, regional wildlands protection). Familiarity with relevant public lands laws and policies (particularly the National Environmental Policy Act and National Forest Management Act) is highly recommended. A background in environmental policy, or ecology and related sciences, is a plus. Past activism experience is an important strength and should be discussed in the application. Strong writing skills are a must. Applicants should be self-motivated and should have solid time management skills. Applications should be received by May 25.
