JOB ANNOUNCEMENT:
ECOSYSTEM DEFENSE AND OUTREACH

The Ecology Center is seeking a staff member to focus on ecosystem defense
and outreach. The Ecology Center works to protect the biological diversity
and ecosystem integrity of the Wild Rockies Bioregion through ecosystem
defense, GIS, documentary filmmaking, activist empowerment, and
international programs
(see http://www.wildrockies/teci). The organization is based in Missoula,
a small city surrounded by an array of spectacular wild ecosystems, which
hosts a university and numerous environmental organizations.

Applicants should have a strong desire to work towards protecting public
land ecosystems in the Northern Rockies. The position is full to
three-quarters time. Primary responsibilities include monitoring and
critiquing timber sales and other projects on national forests and other
public lands in Montana and Idaho. The staff member will also work on
outreach campaigns closely tied to ecosystem defense (e.g. roadless area
protection, redefining restoration, regional wildlands protection).

Familiarity with relevant public lands laws and policies (particularly the
National Environmental Policy Act and National Forest Management Act) is
highly recommended. A background in environmental policy, or ecology and
related sciences, is a plus. Past activism experience is an important
strength and should be discussed in the application. Strong writing skills
are a must. Applicants should be self-motivated and should have solid time
management skills.

Applications should be received by May 25. Send a resume, cover
letter, and three references to:
