JOB ADVERTISEMENT Department of Wildlife and Fisheries SciencesFaculty
of Ecology and Evolutionary BiologyGenomics Signature Program at Texas
A&M University We seek a tenure-track assistant professor with research
expertise in comparative genomics and/or quantitative genetics of
vertebrates as applied to systematics, evolution, conservation, and
management of natural populations. The candidate must establish an
independently funded graduate research program, and teach in his/her
area of expertise. POSITION TITLE: Assistant Professor of Wildlife and
Fisheries Sciences, specializing in comparative genomics of vertebrates
as applied to systematics, evolution, conservation, and management of
natural populations. SCOPE AND FUNCTION: This tenure-track, 12 month
position in the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences involves
teaching, scholarly research, and the supporting activities customary
for faculty of a major university. The successful candidate will
develop an active, extramurally funded research program in comparative
vertebrate genomics. Interaction with other faculty on projects is
expected. The candidate also will be expected to teach an undergraduate
course, WFSC 402 - General Ornithology, and to develop a graduate level
course in the candidate's area of specialization; to advise
undergraduate and graduate students; to supervise graduate student
research; to plan and participate in seminars; to serve on departmental
committees; to interact with undergraduate student groups as
appropriate, for example the student chapters of The Wildlife Society,
the Society for Conservation Biology, and others; to engage in relevant
public service activities, including service to national and
international scientific societies; and to publish in peer reviewed
journals. The candidate also is expected to serve as a member of the
Graduate Faculty of Texas A&M University. Teaching will be done

however, field trips and other teaching related activities might require
limit! ed travel to off-campus locations. There also are Study Abroad
opportu nities and field oriented courses available through the
department. Research will focus on the application of modern molecular
approaches to the study of the genetics of natural populations of
vertebrates, applying theory and principles of systematics, population
genetics, and evolutionary biology to address problems in vertebrate
population biology, systematics, conservation, and management.
QUALIFICATIONS: Completed Ph.D. in Zoology, Genetics, Wildlife Biology,
or related area, record of accomplishment in research with publication
in refereed journals, record of extramural funding as principal
investigator or co-principal investigator, record of presentations at
national or international meetings. Experience with relevant
technologies/skills valuable for research in the field (molecular
techniques such as DNA sequencing, microsatellite analysis, and other
molecular skills involved in the assessment of genetic variation,
systematic relationships, and evolution of wildlife species and
populations) is required. Submit CV, statement of research and
teaching interests, relevant reprints, and have three letters of
reference sent to: Dr. John W. Bickham, Department of Wildlife and
Fisheries Sciences, 210 Nagle Hall, Texas A&M University, College
