MentorNet (www.MentorNet.net), the E-Mentoring
Network for Diversity in Engineering and Science,
seeks tenured faculty as mentors in its Academic
Career E-Mentoring Program. This program pairs
graduate students, postdocs, and untenured
tenure-track faculty members pursuing faculty
careers with tenured faculty members for 8-month
mentoring relationships conducted via
email. Here are four good reasons to sign up to become a mentor:

. MentorNet is currently in great need of tenured
faculty members (especially in the fields of
physics, biological sciences and computer science) to volunteer as mentors.
. Research has shown that due to the electronic
nature of the mentoring relationship, mentoring
with MentorNet is convenient and involves a very
small time commitment (often only a few emails/month!).
. Mentors find the experience highly rewarding -
offering guidance to a future colleague while
providing an opportunity to reflect on their career paths and choices.
. There are over 80 graduate students, post-docs
and tenure-track faculty waiting for a mentor to
help them progress wisely toward a career in academia.

Please consider volunteering as a mentor and
publicizing the program to your colleagues by
forwarding this message. Even if you choose not
to be a mentor, spreading the word about
MentorNet to other faculty members can help us to
provide mentors for those protégés waiting to be matched!
