Position:  Aquatic Research Technician, TX

 

Organization:  Texas Tech University Cooperative Research Unit

 

Dates:  Need to fill the position as soon as possible.  Field work begins 
January 2, 2006 and ends March 31, 2006

 

Salary:  40 hrs per week at $6.50 per hr. Housing will be provided (camper 
trailer) if needed.

 

Study Site:  Mouth of the Rio Grande and 30 river miles inland.  Near 
Brownsville and South Padre Island, Texas.  

 

Project Description:  We will be collecting common snook and limnological data 
from the Rio Grande as part of a juvenile habitat study.  We will also be 
removing gonads from certain fish to be processed later to determine the 
pattern of sexual differentiation and maturity of snook in the Rio Grande.  We 
will be using bottom trawls, boat electrofishing and castnets to collect fish 
and there may also be opportunities to sample the Lower Laguna Madre and the 
Gulf of Mexico.
