It follows the successful first conference, held in Cochabamba, Bolivia, in 2000. Please visit the events web page at www.conservaciondepolylepis.org, where we will be posting updated information. The principal objective of the Second International Conference on the Ecology and Conservation of Polylepis Woodlands (Con-Polylepis II) is to promote the conservation and sustainable use of Polylepis woodlands and their associated biodiversity in all the countries where they are found. Con-Polylepis II is an attempt to stimulate the exchange of scientific information about Polylepis woodlands and their use. The conference will update the current conservation status of Polylepis woodlands, the threats facing these woodlands, and the opportunities for working cooperatively with people whose well-being depends on the conservation of these woodlands. Con-Polylepis II will also provide a forum for establishing strategic alliances between countries, institutions, community leaders, and individual researchers. Con-Polylepis II is open to all those interested in presenting their work, either as brief oral presentations or as posters, on the ecology or conservation of Polylepis, as well as those who would like to attend the various sessions and exchange their knowledge and experience with other researchers from around the world who are working with Polylepis woodlands.
