I am currently working with a group trying to create methods to monitor a
very rare herbaceous plant found in a few, small populations on
disturbance-prone, steep, montane slopes. The problem begins when
actually trying to monitor increases/decreases in individuals plants
within the populations due to the inherent disturbance caused when
visiting populations. Just visiting the peripheral areas of each
population excludes any data for the majority of each population. Not
knowing how disturbance is affecting the current populations has lead to a
temporary halt in all monitoring while other methods are explored. Does
anyone have any suggestions on how to monitor these populations? Remote
sensing is not a viable option. Thanks
