TWO BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIANS/INTERNS NEEDED -- SUMMER 2006
The USGS Patuxent Wildlife Research Center is seeking to hire two=20
full-time temporary Biological Science Technicians (GS-404-04) to assist=20
in maintaining two large-scale avian monitoring programs: the North=20
American Breeding Bird Survey (BBS; www.pwrc.usgs.gov/bbs) and the=20
Breeding Bird Atlas (BBA; www.pwrc.usgs.gov/bba/).  Duties: Preparation of =

biological data for computer entry, performance of quality assurance and=20
quality control procedures on biological data using optical character=20
recognition software and other techniques, assisting with database=20
management, photocopying and filing, conducting literature searches,=20
preparation of graphs, charts and other materials for web pages, and=20
assisting in preparation of administrative correspondence and technical=20
reports on wildlife resources.

Duration: 22 May - 1 Sept. 2006 (approximate start and end dates)=20
Salary: $12.68 per hour.=20
Hours: 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday.
Qualifications: These positions will be filled via the U.S. Geological=20
Survey?s Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP).=20
To qualify for the STEP program applicants must be a:
1) U.S.A. citizen=20
2) Current student (undergraduate) in good standing at an accredited=20
college or university

In addition to the requirements above, preferred candidates will possess=20
the following qualifications:
-- Two years of completed course work in biology, wildlife management,=20
environmental science, or related field.
-- Knowledge of biological theories, concepts and principles; knowledge of =

distributions=20
and natural histories of North American birds, a plus but not required.
-- Knowledge of computer software used to summarize data and develop web=20
pages (e.g., Excel, Access, MS Word).
-- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Duty Station: work will be performed in an office environment located on=20
the USGS Patuxent Wildlife Research Center campus in Laurel, MD.  Housing=20
and transportation to and from the work station will be the responsibility =

of the applicant.=20
