FEMA environmental cadre members work on a wide variety of project
environmental reviews. These reviews are interdisciplinary, include
most physical, biological, social, and "built" environment subject
matters. Project environmental reviews and associated work include, but
are not limited to: project, project site, and project area of effect
"scoping" and "triage", field surveys/site visits, environmental impact
evaluation/prediction, regulatory compliance, interagency and
intergovernmental regulatory consultations, adverse impact avoidance and
mitigation, public notice and involvement, document preparation,
database development and management, and cross-training/professional
development. Associated work, for those qualified, may also include
cultural resources (archeology/historic preservation), floodplain
management, and benefit-cost analysis.
