WildMetro is a small not-for-profit organization dedicated to protecting nature in metropolitan regions. We conduct research on urban ecology in and around New York, educate children and adults about the importance of urban wildlife and urban natural areas, and advocate for a sensible balance of development and nature protection in urban regions.
The Research Coordinator will assist in leading WildMetros research programs, focusing on 1) our ongoing study of small mammal communities in urban-influenced areas, and 2) developing new, and expanding other existing, research programs. Specific responsibilities include conducting field work, writing and editing research proposals and reports, analyzing data, recruiting and training volunteers, coordinating logistics, securing state and other permits, and participating in WildMetros education and advocacy programs. This position is ideal for someone wishing to gain field experience and a hands-on, in-depth understanding of the research process. Successful applicants will practice animal handling techniques and write and communicate grant, educational, and presentation materials. Requirements include an undergraduate degree in Biology, Ecology, or a related field; prior field or research experience; proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint; a willingness to communicate and cooperate with people from different backgrounds; and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
