Summer Field Assistant Needed

Job Description: One summer field assistant is needed in a study
investigating the impacts of an abundant invasive lizard (the brown anole,
Anolis sagrei) on food webs in Florida. The study involves sampling
arthropod communities and estimating lizard densities on a series of small
islands on the east coast of central Florida. Duties will include
collecting arthropods using a variety of techniques, measuring levels of
insect herbivory on dominant plant species, and observing, capturing, and
measuring anoles. Work schedule will likely be six days on, two-three
days off.

Dates: 1 June – 2 July, 2006 (start and end dates slightly flexible)

Location: Canveral National Seashore and Merritt Island National Wildlife
Refuge, FL.

Qualifications: Experience capturing and handling lizards preferred.
Must enjoy working in the outdoors and be highly-motivated, hardworking,
and good-natured. Applicants must be in good physical condition, capable
of mild physical exertion in hot and humid conditions, and tolerant of
(often dense) mosquitoes. An adventurous spirit is desired as the islands
are somewhat wild, inclement weather is often unpredictable, and boat
travel over rough waters is frequently necessary.

Benefits: Housing will be provided in a shared trailer near the water’s
edge. A small stipend ($200) will be provided to help cover food costs or
other expenses. Opportunity for a limited independent research project
exists.

Travel: Assistant will be responsible for travel to and from the Orlando
area, or alternatively to Knoxville, TN.

To apply: Email a letter of interest (indicating why you are a good fit
for the position), resume or CV, and contact information for three
