MONITORING AVIAN PRODUCTIVITY AND SURVIVORSHIP (MAPS) PROGRAM.
SUPERINTERNS are needed to operate constant effort mistnetting and
banding (MAPS) stations in the eastern U.S. Join this
continent-wide, cutting edge effort to determine the vital rates that
cause changes in North American landbird populations. Positions are
available in Maine, West Virginia, and North
Carolina. Superinternships are from 1 May through 8 August. We are
looking for enthusiastic, self-starting individuals with a solid
background in bird banding and some experience working independently
in the field. We prefer applicants who are familiar with MAPS
protocol and in particular we encourage previous MAPS interns to
apply. Superinterns will attend an intensive, two week training
course in mistnetting, banding, and aging and sexing small
landbirds. After training, superinterns will be responsible for
setting up and operating 4 - 6 mistnetting stations and (in Maine and
West Virginia) supervising another intern. Shared housing and a per
diem of $32 for food and other out-of-pocket expenses, amounting to
$2,688 for the season, are provided. Superinterns will need a
reliable vehicle and will be reimbursed at $.33/mile for use of their
vehicle on the job. Superinterns are expected to work a minimum of 6
of every 10 days, sometimes more depending on weather. Please send a
resume, cover letter, and email addresses and phone numbers for 3
