Crawley M (2005) Statistics: an introduction using R. Wiley ISBN 0470022973
is written by a plant ecologist, with many of the examples coming from
biology/environmental science. It is however, an introduction to statistics
rather than an introduction to R. An introduction that covers important
techniques for ecologists such as GAM and Regression trees

The R component is considerably expanded by additional tutorial material
downloadable from the books web site.
