JOB TITLE: PROGRAM COORDINATOR

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Program Coordinator (PC) will work with the Program Manager, other 
Nature Conservancy staff, conservation partners, landowners and citizens to 
plan, coordinate and implement a comprehensive conservation program to 
protect the aquatic systems of the Shiawassee River, located in Michigan’s 
eastern Lower Peninsula.  Roughly half of the PC’s time will be spent 
coordinating the activities of the Friends of the Shiawassee River, a local 
citizen-based conservation group.  In this role, the PC will advance a 
community outreach program, working with the Program Manager and Friends of 
the Shiawassee River, to create and implement a conservation vision for the 
watershed. Developing community partnerships, recruitment and supervision 
of volunteers, performing various types of conservation planning, and 
assisting with aquatic monitoring will be common tasks. The PC will be 
responsible for organizing and managing an advisory board consisting of 
local community leaders.  Additionally, the PC will provide administrative, 
research, project management, and other general assistance to conservation 
staff working in the project field office. The PC is supervised by the 
Project Manager and supervises no staff.  This is a three-year position, 
with renewal dependent on obtaining additional external funding.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
1. Bachelor’s degree in, biological sciences, natural resource management , 
environmental studies or related field and a minimum of two years 
experience (or equivalent combination of training and work experience) in 
watershed management, natural resources conservation planning and 
implementation, and field experience
2. Excellent written, oral and public presentation skills; ability to 
communicate effectively with the public and with project partners; 
experience in proposal writing is desirable.
3. Ability to successfully plan events and programs.
4. Ability to prioritize and organize a variety of tasks.
5. Ability to work independently, effectively and professionally as part of 
a team.
6. Competency in basic computer skills and software, including Microsoft 
Office.  Experience working with Geographic Information System (GIS) 
software, such as ArcInfo or ArcView, is highly desirable.
7. Strong administrative skills including attention to detail and numerical 
ability. 
8. Ability and desire to do physical work related to the job, such as: 
hiking, survey work, and aquatic sampling and monitoring.
