Overview:
Field studies will measure long-term changes in forest bird communities.  
Field work will involve travel to forest plots around southern Wisconsin, 
conducting avian abundance
surveys.  Training will begin May 15 and season will extend through mid-
July.  
Collected data will be compared to surveys conducted on the same plots in 
the 
1950s.  Avian community changes will be correlated with data measuring 
land cover
changes and vegetation changes over the same time period.

Position description:
I am searching for a field technician to conduct field abundance surveys.  
Ideal candidates will have familiarity with Midwest forest birds, 
experience in avian field censuses, basic navigation skills, enthusiasm 
for travel (some camping likely), ability to hike in forested terrain for 
long periods, valid driver license and good driving record, and comfort 
with working alone early in the morning.  Compensation $3000 for season.

Field work details:
Fielf sites include 64 plots, scattered across southern WI.  Based in 
Madison, WI, housing may be available.  Training in field ID and survey 
protocol is scheduled May 15-19, data collection from May 20-mid-July.  
Abundance surveys, consisting of point transects with distance estimation 
and line transects, will occur from dawn - 9 a.m.  After training together 
to ensure data consistency, technician will work individually at 2-3 sites 
per day.  Field days will be weather-dependent and may occur on weekends 
and may occur many days in a row.
