Wetlands in the Mixed-Grass Prairie Region

=20

Project Description: This study will examine the influence of local and
landscape-level variables on migrant shorebirds in the Mixed-Grass
Prairie Region of Oklahoma. The objectives of the study are to
determine relative abundances, species compositions, and migration
chronologies of shorebirds using isolated wetlands; determine habitat
selection of migrant shorebirds; evaluate habitat characteristics and
invertebrate availabilities of isolated wetlands used by migrant
shorebirds; characterize shorebird habitat-use patterns at 2 spatial
scales (local [wetland-level] and landscape scales); and develop
shorebird habitat models based on scale-level analyses. One Ph.D.
assistantship is available for this study. This position is through
Oklahoma Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit and Department of
Zoology at Oklahoma State University. Anticipated start date for the
position is August 1, 2006 or as soon as the position is filled.
