RECRUITMENT FOR: Natural Resources Biologist II (Grade 14)
Contractual - NO BENEFITS
SALARY: $ 33,970 - $ 52,224

POSITION DUTIES: The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR),
Ecosystem Analysis Center is currently seeking applications for a
contractual wetland biologist. This position, located in our Annapolis,
MD headquarters office, will be responsible for conducting field and
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) assessments for the purpose of
identifying and prioritizing wetland conservation and restoration
projects. The incumbent will also be responsible for developing and
implementing a wetland restoration monitoring program that will be used
to evaluate the benefits of DNR wetland restoration projects and develop
management recommendations to improve wetland condition and restoration
success.
Applicant duties will focus on integrating principles of wetlands
ecology with Departmental conservation and restoration initiatives,
which include protecting and restoring State and regional ecological
resources and improving Chesapeake Bay water quality. Assessment
approaches will range from on-site field evaluations to landscape
assessments using ArcGIS software and geospatial datasets. Other
responsibilities include technical writing, presenting at conferences,
and coordinating development and review of wetland assessment methods
with federal, state, county, and private organizations. Applicants with
demonstrated experience in wetland delineation, wetland plant
identification, wetland functional assessment and GIS analysis are
preferred.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited
college or university in biology, biochemistry, environmental science,
aquaculture, natural science, natural resources management, botany,
marine biology, marine ecology, physical oceanography, ichthyology,
fisheries management, wildlife management, zoology, or a natural
resources management related field of study.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in professional biological
work in the field of natural resources management.
Notes: 1. Additional professional experience conducting
research and analysis in the fields of biology, biochemistry,
environmental science, natural science, natural resources management,
botany, marine biology, marine ecology, physical oceanography,
ichthyology, fisheries management, wildlife management or zoology may be
substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required degree.
2. Additional education beyond a bachelor's degree from an
accredited college or university in a natural resources related field of
study as described above may be substituted for the required experience
on a year-for-year basis for up to two years of the required experience.
