  SFEI is seeking to hire (2) ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYST III, for the Watershed and 
Wetland Monitoring and Assessment. The positions will be full time, benefited. 
A Master’s degree in environmental science or related field is a minimum 
prerequisite.
   
  Definition: The Environmental Analyst (EA) III contributes to monitoring, 
research and data management, including data and information synthesis and 
reporting, plus grant writing under general supervision of senior scientific 
staff. In general, the EA III must be able to (1) review and synthesize data 
and information, (2) undertake analysis of this data and information with 
direction from senior staff, (3) work independently in the field with general 
direction from senior scientific staff, (4) communicate findings effectively in 
writing and in public meetings, and (5) assist in developing successful 
proposals for technical projects. A working knowledge of databases, GIS, and 
spread sheets is required. The EA will work mainly through the programs in 
Wetlands and Watersheds, with opportunities to participate in a variety of 
projects carried out by other programs at SFEI. It is expected that the EA will 
contribute to the products of these programs with the supervision from
 senior science staff.
   
  Salary range: $36,513 – $44,216
    
  Advancement Opportunity: The EA will be encouraged to acquire the education, 
supervisory skills and increased capacity for independent research and project 
development required to advance along the Science track at SFEI. Opportunities 
for advancing from EA to Assistant Environmental Scientist will be available, 
and successful execution of the such work will contribute to advancement 
potential.
   
  Specific Requirements: The nature of the work to be performed by the EA for 
the Wetlands and Watershed Programs at SFEI requires a Master’s Degree or 
equivalent field work experience in fluvial geomorphology and/or stream and 
riparian ecology, plus demonstrated writing and computational skills. At least 
a working knowledge of fluvial geomorphology is required. Knowledge of riparian 
and wetland botany is preferred.
   
  Typical Duties will include:
   
    
   conducting fieldwork in riverine, riparian, and various wetland systems of 
the Bay Area using standard techniques for hydrological, geomorphologic, and 
ecological assessment   
   identifying, compiling, and organizing field data and information from 
studies within and outside SFEI   
   helping maintain and update SFEI databases   
   participating in critical reviews of technical products in the Wetlands and 
Watershed programs   
   participating in writing technical grants and reports   
   assisting with public meetings about scientific methods and findings
