Riparian Plant Ecologist Field Tech., Moab, UT

   DUTIES:  Canyonlands Natural History Association and the Northern
   Colorado Plateau Inventory and Monitoring Network are seeking applicants
   for a riparian plant ecologist position based in Moab, Utah.  The
   incumbent will be part of a two-person field team assigned to sample
   riparian vegetation and stream-reach characteristics at sites located in
   National Park Service (NPS) units in the Colorado Plateau region (AZ,
   NM, UT).  Major duties include: locate and establish monitoring plots in
   NPS units at specified geographic coordinates; characterize sampling
   locations on the basis of stream-reach characteristics and geomorphic
   setting; carefully follow established protocols for quantitatively
   sampling the composition and structure of riparian plant communities,
   and enter observations into a database.

   KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:  Ability to identify riparian plant
   species is essential.   Practical knowledge of common methods for
   sampling and describing vegetation composition and structure is
   desirable.

   ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Good physical condition and an ability to work
   in remote locations are essential.  This position will require hiking
   over moderate to rough terrain, and camping in remote locations.  The
   duration of employment is immediate to 3 November 2006.  Compensation is
   $13.58/hr plus per diem when working away from the Moab area.  Work
   hours each week will vary depending on the study area and weather, and
   may include four, 10-hr days.  Use of personal vehicle is required to
   travel to study sties.  Personal vehicle mileage is reimbursed at $0.44
   /mile.
