Stuart Pimm is a good friend and former classmate. Thirty years ago, we not only had the same advisor, Ralph Raitt, but for a fair number of our final classes Stuart and I were the only two people in those final classes.
Since then, Stuart, like every other field biologist, has by necessity become a conservation biologist. Although the Dr. A.H. Heineken Prize for Environmental Sciences was announced several months ago, I only found out on Friday that Stuart Pimm has been awarded the 2006 Prize, and I thought that I would mention it here. Beyond the accompanying $150,000 prize, it is quite an honor, and I am truly tickled for him. Wirt Atmar
