Could you please post this on the ecolog-l? Sorry for cross-posting. =20
Dear Colleagues, =20 Ants are important components of most soil invertebrate communities. =20 Besides their large contribution to biodiversity, they are considered =20 ecosystem engineers that alter the flow of water, energy and nutrients =20 through terrestrial ecosystems. However, despite the importance of =20 these insects for terrestrial ecosystems, relatively little is known =20 on how they influence soil hydrological, chemical and biological =20 processes. We have organized a session at the European Geophysical =20 Union Meeting in Vienna, Austria, at which we will review the status =20 of soil/ant relationships and present case-studies on the impact of =20 both mineral and organic mound-building ants on soil processes. =20 We invite contributions (oral and posters) on any of these soil-ant =20 topics. If enough interest is shown, we would like to have selected =20 papers published as a special issue in a soil, ecology, or a =20 entomological journal. =20 Please find more information about the meeting under the following = links: =20 EGU home: http://meetings.copernicus.org/egu2007 Session: = <http://www.cosis.net/members/meetings/skeleton/view.php?p_id=3D252> http://www.cosis.net/members/meetings/skeleton/view.php?p_id=3D252 =20 If you would like to participate, please send a 200 character abstract = of your paper to Anita Risch ([EMAIL PROTECTED]). Deadline of =20 abstract submission is December 10, 2006. =20 If you have any questions, please email either myself or any of the co-conveners (Artemio Cerda: [EMAIL PROTECTED], Martin Jurgensen: [EMAIL PROTECTED], Leena Fin=E9r: [EMAIL PROTECTED]). Please feel = free to forward this message to anybody you think might be interested in the = venue! =20 Hope to see you in Vienna next spring! =20 Cheers, =20 Anita Risch =20 =20 -- Dr. Anita C.
