Position Announcement Fisheries Biology/Aquatic Ecosystem Health POSITION: This is a 12-month, tenure tack appointment at the Assistant/Associate Professor level (50% teaching-50% research) that will be available on January 1, 2007. QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in fisheries biology, aquatic toxicology, freshwater ecosystems or a related field. The successful candidate will have interests in fisheries and aquatic ecosystems and a commitment to integrated multi-disciplinary research. Strong oral and written communication skills are required. Evidence of excellence in teaching is preferred. Experience in research design, grant development, presentation of results at scientific meetings and publication of results in leading peer-reviewed journals is essential. RESPONSIBILITIES: The selected candidate will normally teach three courses each academic year. One will be an undergraduate course in fish physiology, another will be either ichthyology or fisheries management, and the third will be a graduate-level course in the candidates area of specialization. The individual will assist in developing an interdisciplinary research program on water quality and environmental impacts of land use and other human activities on aquatic ecosystems. They will collaborate with faculty in the fisheries program, the US Fish and Wildlife Cooperative Research Unit, the Interdisciplinary Program in Toxicology as well as faculty in hydrology, ecology, public health and forestry. THE UNIVERSITY AND SCHOOL: The University of Georgia is a land grant institution comprised of 15 Schools and Colleges. It has an undergraduate enrollment of 25,000 and a graduate and professional school enrollment of 8,500. It offers 19 Baccalaureate degrees in over 150 fields, 30 Masters degrees in 128 fields and 3 Doctoral degrees in 90 areas. The Daniel B Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources is a professional school with 53 faculty, 150 upper division undergraduate students and 175 graduate students. Graduate degrees offered by the School include a non-thesis Master of Forest Resources, a Master of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy. The School maintains a 740-acre research forest near campus that houses several research ponds and a state-of-the-art aquatic ecology and fisheries research facility. Additionally, the School operates the Cohutta Fisheries Research and Extension Center in north Georgia and manages over 24,000 acres of land for research and teaching throughout the State.
