Opportunity Announcement:
Performance Demonstration of In Situ Nutrient Sensors

The Alliance for Coastal Technologies (ACT) is currently accepting
preliminary applications from developers, manufacturers, and
distributors of in situ nutrient sensors interested in participating
in independent performance testing. ACT will review responses from
interested parties and invite those with technologies that meet
established criteria to submit a full proposal package. This
evaluation will focus on commercially available, as well as prototype
instruments, designed to measure various nutrient species directly in
marine, estuarine and freshwater environments. Priority performance
parameters and applications will be identified through a user/
customer needs assessment and in consultation with the ACT technical
advisory committee. The performance demonstration will be conducted
in diverse coastal settings at several ACT Partner Institution sites
throughout the US, and will be free of charge for qualifying
applicants. All results will be made available to the public in
summary reports.

ACT is a NOAA-funded partnership of research institutions, state and
regional resource managers, and private sector companies interested
in developing, improving, and applying sensor technologies for
studying and monitoring coastal environments. ACT was established on
the belief that instrument validation is necessary so that effective
existing technologies are recognized and promising new technologies
can be made available to support both successful coastal science and
resource management, and the long-term development of Integrated
Ocean Observing Systems. The specific functions of ACT are to serve
as: (1) an unbiased, third-party testbed for evaluating existing,
new, and developing coastal sensors and sensor platforms, (2) a
comprehensive data and information clearinghouse on coastal
technologies, and (3) a forum for capacity building through workshops
and seminars on specific technology topics.
