In my opinion, sexual discrimination is still part of the world. It will get
better as time goes on, but healthy man would be more preferred than anyone
else. I try to accept that life is unfair, so I should deal with it. But
whenever I see young talented female Ph.Ds leave for teaching, writing or
administrative jobs rather than research positions in order to support her
family (children rearing and two body problems), therefore leaving the
opportunities to other male collegues, who stay 5-6 years or even longer in
post-doc positions as they luckly have fully supportive wives, I feel very
sad, and something wrong. Even worse is when I overheard professors saying
they like to support candidate A as he is responsible for his family
(therefore, he would be more serious in doing his job) than candidate B who
is a single woman, I feel raged.
Even worst, these things are happening in so-called top-teer institutes, and
unfortunately I haven't seen any female professor with a child in my field
in those T-T institutions yet.
