The University of Georgia invites applications and nominations for the 
position of Dean, Daniel B. Warnell School of Forestry and Natural 
Resources. The Dean serves as the chief administrative and academic 
officer of the School, reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice 
President for Academic Affairs.

As the chief administrative officer for the academic, research, and 
service programs of the Daniel B. Warnell School of Forestry and Natural 
Resources, the Dean is assisted by two associate deans, one for academic 
affairs and one for research and service. The position is responsible 
for budget development and management, fundraising from private sources, 
property management, programmatic planning, implementation, and 
assessment. Additionally, the Dean works collaboratively with other 
deans on campus-wide initiatives. The Dean also is the administrative 
technical representative for the McIntire-Stennis Forest Research 
Program, associate director of the Agricultural Experiment Station and 
Cooperative Extension Service, liaison with the U.S.D.I. Cooperative 
Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit, and 
the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center. The Dean has a seat on the Board 
of Georgia Forestry Association. Responsibilities also include 
cooperative relations with the forest resource industries, natural 
resource agencies, nongovernmental organizations, other educational 
institutions, and public officials.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and 
characteristics: An earned doctorate from an accredited university in a 
discipline related to forestry and natural resources and a record of 
academic performance commensurate with appointment at the rank of 
Professor, significant national and international accomplishments in 
teaching, research, service, or professional forest or natural resource 
management, demonstrated administrative and leadership abilities to 
promote excellence and to work effectively with faculty, staff, 
students, University of Georgia administrators, and alumni to promote 
the mission of the school, demonstrated ability to communicate the 
mission and importance of the programs in the Warnell School of Forestry 
and Natural Resources to external audiences, significant experience 
generating public and private financial and non financial support for a 
program or school, a commitment to diversity, demonstrated ability to 
interact positively with constituent groups in business and industry, 
federal and state agencies, volunteer and professional organizations, 
and foundations whose goals are consistent with the mission of the 
School of Forestry and Natural Resources, demonstrated experience with 
budgetary development and management, and familiarity with the public, 
industrial, and nongovernmental organizations associated with natural 
resources.

The University of Georgia is a land-grant/sea-grant institution located 
in Athens, approximately 65 miles northeast of Atlanta. Athens is 
located in an area of great natural beauty and the campus and community 
offer many cultural and recreational opportunities. Academic programs 
reside in 15 schools and colleges. The University enrolls approximately 
33,000 students including undergraduates, graduates, and professional

The Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources is a professional 
school that offers a Bachelor of Science in Forest Resources degree with 
majors in Fisheries and Aquaculture, Forestry, Natural Resources 
Recreation and Tourism, Water and Soil Resources and Wildlife. Graduate 
degrees offered include Master of Science, Master of Forest Resources, 
and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in various specialty areas of natural 
resources. The School enrolls about 145 undergraduate and 170 graduate 
students and has 51 faculty. Housed in a four-building complex on UGA’s 
South Campus, the School also manages the 740-acre Whitehall Forest near 
campus, and more than 23,500 acres across the state for research,
