streams, fish and invertebrates.  The requirements of the position are
as follows.  Collect data on stream fish, invertebrates and habitat.
Maintain stream gages and rain gages.  Set up study designs for BMP
monitoring and supervise consultants performing BMP monitoring.  Analyze
data and write reports.  Experience with hydrology, stormwater

WATER QUALITY SPECIALIST II

Salary range effective 1/7/07: $45,319 - $75,001. 

Employee will spend considerable time outside collecting stream and
water quality data under a variety of environmental conditions and that
may require carrying up to 40 pounds of gear. Specifically, the employee
will work with stream monitoring crews to collect biological,
physiochemical, geomorphic, and habitat data needed to assess stream
health. Field duties include: fish monitoring, surveying, rapid habitat
assessments, maintaining several rain and stream flow gages, water
quality testing at various outfalls, and benthic macroinvertebrate
sampling. Lab duties include subsampling benthic macroinvertebrate
samples. Office duties include data entry, analysis and preparation of
reports. Experience in GIS or database systems, specifically ArcMap and
sql 2000, preferred. Field work will take place in various stream
locations throughout the county and will be scheduled throughout the
year as needed. Hours of work are 7:30-4:00 Monday through Friday.

Position may be underfilled at the Water Quality Specialist I level.
Salary range: $39,066 - $64,475; Experience: one year of experience in
stream water sampling and data analysis, bioassessment protocols for
streams and rivers (particularly fish and macroinvertebrates), and
assessment of stream habitat conditions; or at the PAI level: Salary
range: $34,465 - $56,585; no experience but Bachelor's degree or
equivalency required.
