Position Announcement: Dean, College of Natural and Mathematical =20 Sciences
Lake Superior State University seeks applications and nominations for =20= Dean of its College of Natural and Mathematical Sciences. The College =20= consists of the departments of Chemistry and Environmental Sciences; =20 Geology and Physics; Biological Sciences; and Mathematics and =20 Computer Science. The College is comprised of approximately 37 =20 faculty and staff members, and over 400 majors. LSSU is well-known =20 for it science programs that feature opportunities for undergraduate =20 research and service projects, close collaboration between faculty =20 and students, and a tradition of excellence in undergraduate =20 education. The University=92s Aquatic Research Laboratory, Kemp Mineral =20= Museum, planetarium and Gleason Environmental Institute are =20 administratively assigned to the College. Responsibilities We seek an enthusiastic and highly motivated administrator, an =20 individual who is interested in the unique student-faculty dynamics =20 promoted by a small, predominately undergraduate institution. The =20 candidate will work collegially with a dedicated faculty in both =20 leading and supporting innovative efforts in programmatic =20 development, local and regional outreach, research, and =20 grantsmanship. Reporting to the Provost, the Dean will be responsible =20= for faculty evaluation and development, encouraging excellence in =20 instruction, and assisting in enrollment and retention initiatives. =20 Deans may teach a class in their area of specialization. Qualifications Minimum qualifications are a PhD in an area of natural or =20 mathematical sciences, or closely related field, significant teaching =20= experience, and five years at the level of Department Chair or =20 equivalent. This is a 12-month, untenured administrative position. =20 Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
