The School of Forest Resources, University of Arkansas, Monticello has a M.S. Assistantship available beginning in the summer or fall of 2007. The assistantship is half time and carries a stipend of $15,000 per year plus tuition and fees. The assistantship is half time and carries a stipend of $15K per year plus tuition and fees. The assistantship will evaluate the responses of loblolly pine productivity to mid-rotation fertilization and woody vegetation competition control. In addition the student will develop a logistic equation related to mortality and vigor of non-crop trees to these treatments. Currently, this is the 5th year of the study and the student will summarize and synthesize 5-8 years field data. Research is occurring at a number of field sites in the Gulf Coastal Plain of Arkansas and Louisiana. Qualifications: A 2.7 overall undergraduate GPA or 3.0 GPA in the last 60 semester hours of undergraduate courses and satisfactory GRE scores (>=1000 verbal+quantitative). International applicants need a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper) or 213 (computer) with minimum section scores of 55 (paper) or 21 (computer). A B.S. degree in environmental science, biology, soils, forestry or a related field is also required.
