SUMMER RESEARCH ASSISTANT POSITIONS USDA Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station Great Basin Ecosystem Management Project
The Positions: ·Research assistants for field and lab work with the pinyon-juniper woodland network experiment of the SageSTEP Treatment Evaluation Project. ·Work includes sampling vegetation and soils in central and eastern Nevada sagebrush steppe, laboratory processing of the collected materials, and data entry. You may be eligible for academic creditâtalk to your advisor. ·Hours: Full time (40 hrs/wk) from early/mid May until classes resume at the end of August. Some part time before and after this period is possible. ·Pay: $11.01 - $13.83/hr depending on education and experience. ·Housing supplied by the Ely Ranger District (rent approximately $5/day). Qualifications: ·Interest in working with plants required, knowledge of native Nevada and/or Great Basin plant species desirable. ·Familiarity with field plant and soil data collection techniques and lab processing techniques. ·Computer skills, especially MS Excel. ·Good physical condition, including ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time in varying weather conditions. This will include hiking long distances in rough terrain carrying research equipment and samples. ·Availability for extended field work, up to 8 days (usually Monday-Monday) with 6 days off (usually Tuesday-Sunday). ·Good driving record.
