Welcome to the XXVIIIth IUGB congress (International Union of Game
Biologists) in Uppsala, Sweden, 13th-18th August 2007

The Departments of Wildlife, Fish, and Environmental Studies (Umeå) and
Ecology (Grimsö) at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and
the Center for Fish and Wildlife Research, in cooperation with The Swedish
Environmental Protection Agency and The Swedish Association for Hunting
and Wildlife Management, invite you to the next IUGB Congress, in Uppsala,
Sweden, 13th-18th August 2007.


Main topics on the program:

- Adaptive management
- Game abundance and bag statistics
- Human dimension of game management
- Predators, herbivores, and forestry
- Quantitative methods for game populations
- Recovering and introduced wildlife populations
- Technical progress and challenges for monitoring of game and wildlife
- Waterfowl populations and disease management in a flyway perspective

In addition, there will be a number of specific workshops held during the
congress, incl.:

- Can we help small game species by encouraging large predators?
- Game management in Africa: lessons learned, comparisons with Europe,
adaptive management, and case studies
- Small Game Monitoring in Europe
- Hunting of migrating birds through the main flyways

Among the keynote speakers who have been confirmed so far are; Dr. Robert
G. Clark (Environment Canada), Prof. Kjell Danell (Swedish University of
Agricultural Sciences), Dr. E J Milner-Gulland (Imperial College London),
Dr. James D. Nichols (USGS Patuxent Wildlife Research Center) och Prof.
Jon Swenson (Norwegian University of Life Sciences).


Every two years since the mid-1950's, the International Union of Game
Biologists (IUGB) has brought together international wildlife biologists,
forestry scientists, veterinarians, game managers, hunters and others with
an interest in game or wildlife biology.  Recent conferences have
attracted 300 to 400 participants from about 40 countries. The IUGB
encourages the exchange of scientific and practical knowledge in the field
of game and wildlife management, the broad field of game biology and
international cooperation in game and wildlife management. The aim of the
conference is to create a bridge among scientists, wildlife managers and
authorities and those studying the human dimensions of wildlife
management.
