PART-TIME FIELD AND LAB ASSISTANT POSITION

Site: Silverton, Colorado.

Duration: June 18 to August 6, 2007.

Project Title: Geology as a Possible Controlling Factor on Beetle
Community Structure and Biodiversity in a Mountainous Environment

Job Description: This position will assist in weekly soil/sediment
tests, plant community identification, and beetle trapping out in the
field, and will require hiking in most weather conditions and
sometimes carrying heavy backpack/containers. Fifty percent of the job
will be out in the field while the other fifty percent will be
processing insects collected from the traps (¡Ö3 days per week). Ideal
candidate will have some background in ecology, entomology and field
work but training will be provided if you do not. The geology field
aspect of the project has already been collected, but if you¡¯re a
geology student interested in interdisciplinary work you¡¯re welcome to
apply! You will need to provide your own transportation to Silverton
Colorado unless you are coming from Northwest Ohio or along my travel
route. The Mountain Studies Institute, located in Silverton, will be
able to provide low cost housing.

Currently this is a non-paying position. I am in the process of
applying for grant money to be used for this project. If I can get
money for this position, it will pay $1,190.00 (or $8.50 an hour) for
the field season. Also, if I can get enough grant money, you will not
have to pay for housing. We can share in food costs too.

Deadline to apply for this position is April 10, 2007.
