Raptor biologist Frances Hamerstrom was the only female graduate student of
the legendary ecologist/conservationist Aldo Leopold. Fran contributed a
paper to a symposium on raptor conservation techniques at Fort Collins,
Colorado, 22-24 March 1973, entitled Raptor Management.

Here are the first and last sentences of her discussion of raptor
management:

"My training has been in game management, under Paul Errington and Aldo
Leopold...

However we approach these problems, if man does not limit his own population
all our efforts will be in vain."

Fran and her husband Frederick reached the conclusion back in the 1930's
that the world was overpopulated and they decided they would limit their
reproduction to two children, which they did. Just like their mentor Aldo
Leopold, they were ahead of their time, and ahead of our time as well.
Unfortunately, even in death they are ahead of our time. The world hems and
haws and complains about the symptoms, but not the fundamental illnesses of
our society.
