For those folks that are interested in learning more about the costs associated with publishing ecology journals, Carl and Ted Bergstrom published a very thought-provoking article on the topic in a recent issue of Frontiers in Ecology and the Environment. This paper has significantly impacted the way I think about academic publishing.
