A paid botany internship position is available for a recent graduate
with a biology related major.

Compensation is $750 per two week pay period.

The internship is 5 months in length.=20

Opportunities exist to continue work overseas (Australia and/or UK). In
addition, a Masters program in Plant Biology and Conservation with
Northwestern University is also available for suitably qualified post
internship candidates.

Location: Lower Sonoran BLM Field Office, Phoenix, Arizona

Job Description:=20

Presence of Invasive and/or Noxious Weeds: The intern would assist our
lead in invasive and noxious weed inventories.  This work would be
conducted along the I-8 corridor that runs through the Sonoran Desert
National Monument and the Lower Sonoran Field Office.  There would also
be inventory work along other major highways including Highway 85 near
the Buckeye, AZ area and I-10 near Saddle Mountain approximately 50
miles west of Phoenix.  There would be some travel involved in the work
along I-8 that would require the intern to stay overnight for 2 to 3
nights in Gila Bend, AZ.

Plan for T&E Species Recovery:The intern would assist in an interagency
project for desert tortoise conservation plan development.  The
individual would also participate in Sonoran Pronghorn recovery projects
and assist with biological assessment for land use planning effort.
Most of this work would be conducted in the field near Ajo, AZ or in our
field office.  There would be some travel involved in the work along in
the Ajo, AZ area that would require the intern to stay for 2 to 3
nights.

Monitor Terrestrial Habitat: The intern would assist in monitoring the
health and impacts to habitat in various areas in the Lower Sonoran
Field Office covering an area roughly 60,000 acres.  Most of this work
would be directed at habitat associated with threatened and endangered
species.  There would be some travel involved in the work that was 50
miles or further from the field office that would require the intern to
stay  2 to 3 nights in Gila Bend or Ajo, AZ.

Shrub Grassland Treatments Evaluated: The intern would assist in
evaluating vegetation recovery since the removal of livestock grazing in
Sonoran Pronghorn habitat on the Cameron allotment near Ajo, AZ.  This
work would be conducted in the Lower Sonoran Field Office covering an
area roughly 50,000 acres.  There would be some travel involved in the
work that would require the intern to stay 2 to 3 nights in Ajo, AZ.=20
