Hello all, There is now a free utility that helps you to build a datafile to make your own illustrated interactive keys in the free, open, keying software SLIKS (www.stingersplace.com/SLIKS/.
I've recently gotten some feedback that a lot of people are a bit apprehensive about making a SLIKS data file from scratch and weren't really aware of many of the options for images, I made a little helper program to facilitate the process. You still need to open Notepad (which is part of Windows), but SLIKSMaker does all of the work and formatting. You just paste what SLIKSMaker gives you into it and save the file. As always, it's free, it's open so you can tweak it if you want to, and it doesn't require any installation. If you download it, just make sure that you fully unzip it (copy it out of the zip window to somewhere else) and make sure that in Internet Explorer the “Allow active content to run in files on My Computer” box is checked in (Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Security menu). You can use it online at: http://www.stingersplace.com/SLIKS/SLIKSMAKER/SLIKSMaker.html Or you can download it at: http://www.stingersplace.com/SLIKS/SLIKSDOWNLOAD/SLIKS22andSLIKSMAKER.zip Cheers, Stinger Guala www.stingersplace.com
