ECOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT OF THE ETHIOPIAN HIGHLANDS, 

5 credits (7.5 ECTS credits)

Course Objectives: 
The course will provide an understanding of the physical and biotic 
fundamentals for livelihoods and land management in the highlands of 
Ethiopia . Particular emphasis is put on soils, fire management and 
grazing. 

This course started with a series of lectures by Professor Masresha Fetene 
in Umeå in June 2006. The lectures are available on CD.

16th - 30th November 2007, the second part of the course will include a 13 
days' field excursion through the southern highlands of Ethiopia , with 
participation of researchers and PhD students from Addis Ababa University .

Students are expected to apply for travel grants individually. Course
