I would just like to remind the current crop of graduates, other academic job searchers, and current search committees that you can post the status of positions anonymously at:
http://wikihost.org/wikis/academe/wiki/all_biology I you get a phone interview, campus interview, find out you made a short list, etc. you post in the appropriate section. Then, if others can see your anonymous post without having to contact the search committee chair (which can be emotionally and professionally cumbersome at times!. Search committees often post progress on here to assist the searchers. A couple of us have been editing the biology page for about a year because it became a disorganized mess with old posts accumulating but not getting deleted (those who used it last year will remember this)! We noted that last year nearly every advertised position appeared on the wiki. So a lot of search committeees and job searchers monitor it. This wiki is a service of the Chronicle of Higher Education, although we have it linked on the "Other Websites" page of the Herpetological Conservation and Biology website (http://www.herpconbio.org). I hope this is helpful to all of the job seekers out there! I know that when looking for a job, its nice to have the luxury to look down the list and see if the place you applied has moved forward. PS-the wiki has other discipline pages if you happen to be in an interdisciplinary field (environmental writing for example). Some are very active, others are defunct. Biology is doing pretty well!
