Wayne, this is quite simple. If we take Haeckle saying ecology is the comprehensive science of how organisms are related to each other and to their environment, than agricultural ecology is nothing more and nothing less than the comprehensive science of how organisms are related to each other and to their environment in agricultural used ecosystems. Or just take one of these: Ecology of the cultural landscape Ecology in agricultural landuse Ecology in farmland
Compared to ecology in wilderness it is pretty obvious that the impact of human activities gets much more important (like tillage, plant protection and so on..). A very interesting questions to me is: Do we have to take humans as organisms in the system or are their activities environmental factors like wind, rainfall, and earthquakes? Students from my lectors go home with this message: well, it depends..........on the scale Martin ___________________________________________ Martin Potthoff Research Centre Agriculture and Environment University of Göttingen Am Vogelsang 6 37075 Göttingen Germany Tel: +49 +551 39-5537 fax: +49 +551 39-2295 email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] homepage: http://www.gwdg.de/~mpottho/welcome.html -----Original Message----- From: Ecological Society of America: grants, jobs, news [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Wayne Tyson Sent: Thursday, September 27, 2007 7:05 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Ecology Agricultural Definition I'd like as many definitions of the term, "agricultural ecology" as subscribers care to submit.
