In fact The Changing Mile has been updated, or rather, revisited. Turner and Hastings, The Changing Mile Revisited: an ecological study of vegetation change with time in the lower mile of an arid and semiarid region. Another work in a similar vein is Webb, Leake, and Turner, The Ribbon of Green: change in riparian vegetation in the southwestern United States (University of Arizona Press, 2007), which discusses change in riparian areas using historical and recent photographs taken at the same locations.
