Many of us on the listserve got the mailing from GWPP (the Global Warming Propaganda Project?). I was not surprised to hear that the guy who signed his name is also pro-tobacco, because the tobacco lobby is indeed the bankroller of anti global warming stuff (I forget who found that out, but it was on NPR a year or so ago). You might want to check the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons on line. Once you get past their own junk, there are some excellent critiques of their political agenda.
About 10 years ago, the same group (probably under a different name) sent out a phony reprint made to look exactly like a PNAS article. It was deliberate fraud, and ended up in the news section of Science magazine. I don't have the copy I received, but as far as I can recall, the latest garbage from JAPS (hmm, just noticed the acronym) has the same material in it. At least they are consistent. Obviously, they have lots of money and no scruples. They are a pack of liars. As for a response, the good news is that Al Gore has trained 1000 people to give his slide show or some form of it. That's not all. There are many events to educate the public, and to get commitments from all levels of government to take action. We just had one at Clark University in Worcester last week, and the mayor and city council members made public commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Will they follow through? We'll see.
