Or you could avoid the quick fix of capitalism and take some time and become
your own local expert:
1) obtain local field guide/taxonomic key to plants from library
2) walk around your neighborhood/watershed collecting seeds and cuttings
from:
A) fallow lots
B) alongside railroad tracks
C) windrows/fencerows
D) below favorite bird perches
3) build a small greenhouse out of scavenged/discarded windows
4) experiment by moving potted natives around your yard to assertain
preferences
this is of course assuming that you'd be willing to make the transition to a
native species lawn a 3-5 year process (not be moving house soon) and that
you'd want to save $2,000 - 5,000 dollars
happy planting,
