Biodiversity and associated ecosystem=20 services are fundamental to humanity but are=20 threatened by human activity in a range of=20 sectors. This project, involving researchers at=20 TCD, UCD and UCC, will quantify impacts of key=20 sectoral activities (in particular: cultivation=20 of bioenergy crops, road landscaping and=20 aquaculture) on genetic, species and landscape=20 biodiversity and the ecosystem services they=20 provide, including pollination, biological pest=20 control, carbon sequestration and resistance to=20 alien species invasion. In addition, we will test=20 methods for mitigating impacts, carry out=20 in-depth strategic reviews in order to inform=20 national policy decisions, and make=20 recommendations for future strategic research and management.
