As a Colombian, I would recommend the book ONE RIVER written By Wade
Davis as a well narrative guidance for ecologists to unveil this
mankind's problem. This is a very well written book using ethnobotany
and history to understand better the war on drugs.

You should also look into the consumer-side aspects of the US war on
drugs, especially in a market-driven world, to grasp a holistic
understanding on your points such as:

- fumigation crops: spraying dioxines in the rainforest....
- socio-ecological effects: high deforestation rates, colonization...
- local populations: Refugees displaced by the terrorists guerrillas
and paramilitaries ( FARC, ELN, etc), and hidden political ecologies.

I may suggest, you should also take into account both sides supply and demand.

Best,

Arturo Restrepo
Ecologist
