Internship in Applied Suburban Ecology

The Mianus River Gorge Preserve (MRGP) in Bedford, NY is offering three
internships for undergraduate students interested in protecting and
conserving natural areas in human modified landscapes. The MRGP (763 acres)
is the first land project of the Nature Conservancy and protects over 60
acres of old-growth hemlock forest just 45 miles from NYC.

Interns will work alongside MRGP staff on a variety of projects including
wildlife monitoring, preserve husbandry, non-native management, and GIS
applications. Each intern will also have an independent project. This may
include mentoring a high school WTP student, assisting a graduate RAP
student, or participating in any other project found at our website
(www.mianus.org).

Three 4-week internships are available (Late spring, Early summer, Late
summer). Interns will receive a stipend of: $175/week or a combination of
school credit and stipend (depending on university requirements). An
off-site apartment at the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation will be made
available to out-of-town students. Students that take advantage of our
housing must have a car to commute to the MRGP.

All undergraduate students are eligible to apply. While we do not require
applicants to major in a particular discipline, exposure to the fields of
ecology, environmental science, or geography is encouraged. Students must
like to work outside.
